Crane Tree Removal
Specialized crane-assisted tree removal for large, hazardous, or hard-to-reach trees near structures, power lines, and steep terrain.
Crane Tree Removal Services in Woodinville & Greater Seattle
The Pacific Northwest is home to some of the tallest trees in North America. When towering Douglas Firs, Western Red Cedars, and other large conifers need to come down safely — especially near homes, power lines, or in confined spaces — crane-assisted removal is often the safest and most efficient option.
Aadams Tree Service provides professional crane tree removal throughout Woodinville, Kirkland, Bellevue, Seattle, Redmond, and the greater Eastside area. With over 40 years of experience and an ISA Certified Arborist (PN-6319A) on staff, we have the expertise and equipment to handle the most challenging removals in the region.
When Is Crane Tree Removal Necessary?
Not every tree removal requires a crane. However, crane-assisted removal becomes the best approach in situations such as:
- Large trees near structures — When a 100-foot Douglas Fir is within falling distance of your home, garage, or neighbor’s property, a crane provides precise control over every section as it is lifted away.
- Trees near power lines — Working near electrical infrastructure demands the highest safety standards. Crane removal minimizes the risk of contact with live wires.
- Confined spaces — Tight lots, narrow side yards, and properties surrounded by other trees leave no room for traditional felling. A crane lifts sections vertically out of the canopy.
- Steep terrain — Hillside properties common throughout the Eastside often make ground-based removal impractical or dangerous.
- Hazardous or damaged trees — Storm-damaged trees with cracked trunks, split forks, or compromised root systems may be too unstable for a climber. Crane support ensures safe removal.
- Time-sensitive projects — Crane removal is significantly faster than piece-by-piece rigging, reducing crew time and minimizing disruption to your property.
Our Crane Tree Removal Process
1. Free On-Site Assessment
Our ISA Certified Arborist evaluates the tree’s size, condition, species, and proximity to structures, utilities, and other trees. We assess site access for crane positioning and develop a detailed removal plan.
2. Planning and Permitting
We coordinate crane logistics, determine the optimal equipment size, and assist with any required tree removal permits from your local municipality. Safety planning includes establishing work zones and protecting your landscaping and structures.
3. Crane Setup and Rigging
On removal day, the crane is positioned and stabilized. Our certified climber ascends the tree and attaches rigging to sections of the canopy. The crane operator and climber work in close coordination through constant radio communication.
4. Section-by-Section Removal
The crane lifts each section of the tree — starting from the top — and swings it to a designated landing zone where the ground crew processes the wood. This controlled approach eliminates the risk of uncontrolled falling and protects everything below.
5. Stump Grinding and Clean-Up
After the tree is down, we chip all branches, process trunk wood, and clean the site. Stump grinding can be completed at the same time for maximum efficiency and savings.
Why Crane Removal Is Safer and More Efficient
Compared to traditional climbing-and-rigging methods, crane-assisted removal offers significant advantages:
- Reduced risk — Sections are lifted away from structures rather than lowered through the canopy, eliminating the chance of branches striking your home or landscaping.
- Faster completion — A removal that might take a full day with climbing and rigging can often be completed in a few hours with a crane.
- Less impact on your property — No dragging heavy limbs across your lawn. Sections are lifted cleanly and set down in a designated area.
- Safer for the crew — The climber spends less time in the tree and is always supported by the crane’s rigging.
