Tree Safety Inspections in Woodinville & Greater Seattle
The Pacific Northwest is celebrated for its lush forests and vibrant greenery, and trees are an integral part of the region’s natural beauty. However, the same wet winters, heavy winds, and saturated soils that help our trees grow also create conditions that lead to tree failure. A tree that looks healthy from the outside may be harboring internal decay, root rot, or structural weaknesses that make it a ticking time bomb.
Aadams Tree Service provides professional tree safety inspections throughout Woodinville, Kirkland, Bellevue, Redmond, Bothell, Seattle, and the greater Eastside area. Our ISA Certified Arborist (PN-6319A) and Certified Tree Risk Assessor uses industry-standard methodologies to identify potential hazards before they cause injury or property damage.
Why Tree Safety Inspections Are Essential
Prevent Catastrophic Failure
Trees, especially older or damaged ones, can develop structural weaknesses that are invisible from the ground. Internal trunk decay, compromised root systems, and co-dominant stems with included bark are common failure points for Pacific Northwest species like Douglas Fir and Bigleaf Maple. A professional inspection identifies these risks before a storm turns them into emergencies.
Protect Your Property
A single falling tree can cause tens of thousands of dollars in damage to homes, vehicles, fences, and landscaping. Regular inspections are a small investment that prevents catastrophic losses and potential liability claims.
Reduce Liability
Property owners have a legal duty of care to maintain safe conditions. If a tree on your property injures someone or damages neighboring property, you may be held liable. Documented inspections demonstrate that you took reasonable steps to identify and address hazards.
Support Insurance Claims
Insurance companies increasingly expect property owners to maintain their trees. A professional inspection report can support your claim and demonstrate responsible property management. It can also help resolve disputes about pre-existing conditions versus storm damage.
Preserve Healthy Trees
Not every concerning tree needs to come down. A risk assessment may reveal that targeted pruning, cabling, or fertilization can reduce the risk to acceptable levels while preserving the tree’s benefits.
Our Inspection Process
1. Visual Assessment
Our Certified Tree Risk Assessor conducts a thorough ground-level evaluation of each tree, examining:
- Trunk condition — cavities, cracks, fungal fruiting bodies, cankers, and seams
- Crown structure — dead branches, co-dominant stems, included bark, and excessive lean
- Root zone — exposed roots, soil heaving, severed roots, and signs of root rot
- Site conditions — proximity to targets (homes, walkways, driveways, play areas), soil type, drainage, and recent grade changes
2. Advanced Diagnostics (When Needed)
For trees with suspected internal defects, we may use:
- Sounding (mallet testing) to detect hollow sections
- Resistograph or similar drilling tools to measure internal wood density
- Root collar excavation to expose and evaluate the root flare
- Aerial inspection by our certified climber for canopy-level concerns
3. Risk Rating and Recommendations
Each inspected tree receives a risk rating based on the ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) framework. Our written report includes:
- Tree species, size, and condition summary
- Identified defects and their severity
- Risk rating (low, moderate, high, or extreme)
- Recommended actions — monitoring, pruning, cabling, removal, or other mitigation
- Timeframe for recommended actions
- Photo documentation
